Safeguarding & Child Safety
How we keep young people safe — and how to raise a concern.
Our commitment to child safety
Authority House is committed to the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of children and young people. We take this responsibility seriously and work to ensure every young person who connects with us is known, safe and supported. Safeguarding is part of how we lead, teach and serve — not an afterthought.
Working With Children Check requirements
All mentors, leaders and volunteers who work with people under 18 hold a valid Working With Children Check (or the equivalent in their state or territory) before they begin. We keep records and renew checks as required.
Screening, onboarding and training
- •Application, reference checks and interview for mentors and leaders
- •Valid Working With Children Check verified before any contact with young people
- •Safeguarding and child-safe induction training
- •Ongoing training and periodic review
Supervision and conduct
- •Appropriate adult-to-young-person ratios at camps, events and groups
- •Visible, accountable environments — no hidden one-on-one interactions
- •Clear boundaries for mentors and leaders (see our Code of Conduct)
- •A clear path to raise any concern
How parents and carers can raise concerns
If something does not feel right, please tell us. We take every concern seriously and will listen, record and act. You can contact us through our Contact & Reporting page — you do not need to be certain before reaching out.
Reporting process
Concerns can be raised in writing or by contacting our team. We acknowledge concerns promptly, follow our internal reporting process, and report to the relevant authorities where required. If a child or young person is in immediate danger, call emergency services on 000.
